The Findhorn Foundation is part of an intentional spiritual community living, studying and working together in the northeast of Scotland. It was founded in 1962 by Peter and Eileen Caddy and Dorothy Maclean on the principles that God, or the source of life, is accessible to each of us at all times, and that nature, including the planet, has intelligence and is part of a much greater plan. While we they have no formal doctrine or creed, they believe that humanity is involved in an evolutionary expansion of consciousness which is creating new patterns of civilisation and a planetary culture infused with spiritual values.
The Foundation, a charitable trust, is a centre of education and a demonstration that offers people the opportunity to visit, live and work with them in a variety of ways. The educational programmes they offer stem from their personal and collective seach to bring about a deeper sense of the sacred in everyday life - to deal with work, relationships and their environment in new and more fulfilling ways, to create an atmosphere of honesty and love, and to be conscious in all that we say and do. Life itself is the classroom, and it is our dayly life together that provides the catalyst for our spiritual growth.
The community began with three adults and three children in a barren caravan park, grew to include about 350 people of various ages and nationalities, and now resembles a complex and thriving village. People with shared values and vision are living alongside the Foundation, working with independant businesses and other ventures as part of a wider community which is able to embrace greater diversity and freedom of expression. This growing community is having a profound effect on the Foundation, and the creative interchange between the two is the key to the vitality and the evolution of both.
Over the past 33 years many different groups and thousands of individuals have visited the Foundation, each having a unique and personal experience and all connecting more deeply to their own inner spirit and wisdom.
They warmly welcome all people irrespective of race, colour, ethnic or national origin, religion, age, sex, marital status, or sexuality. (text adapted from their brochure)
